The entrepreneurial story of the Amonn family began in 1802 when they opened a general grocery store. For over two centuries seven generations have taken over at the helm of this company, their far-sightedness helping it to grow in size and importance, gradually taking on new sectors.

The name Amonn

The name Amonn (originally Aman) appears for the first time in the records of the Municipality of Bolzano.

Johann Michael Amonn

20-year-old Johann Michael Amonn, born 29 September 1734 in Vills near Reutte (Tyrol), comes to Bolzano and, in 1759, acquires the inn called Luna.

Johann Jakob Amonn

His son Johann Jakob Amonn is born in Bolzano.

The firm Amonn is set up

Johann Jakob Amonn opens a general grocery store in this building and the firm Amonn is founded.

Erich and Walter Amonn take over the reins of the firm

The same year architect Marius Amonn is commissioned by the Municipality to refurbish the town hall and the company offices are upgraded.

Head office rebuilt

  • After being completely razed to the ground during the bombardments, the head office is rebuilt to the 1913 design by architect Marius Amonn.

Increase in share capital

Limited company J. F. Amonn increases its share capital to 100 million lire and celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding.

Entry into the grocery chain DESPAR Italia

The company J.F.Amonn SpA, operating in the wholesale and retail stationery sector, in the manufacture and sale of paints and varnishes, agricultural and food products, hotel supplies and office furniture, enters the food chain DESPAR ITALIA.
 
 
 
1962

Ander Amonn develops the retail chain

The company SELL Snc is set up for the wholesale and retail food sector within the DESPAR Group. Ander Amonn joins the DESPAR board of directors. The Province of Bolzano branch of DESPAR is set up with its first associated retailers. Subsequently Ander Amonn is elected Chairman of DESPAR ITALIA, remaining in office for 10 years; he was also a member of the board of SPAR Internazionale for 25 years.

Separation of some branches of the business

J.F. Amonn separates the stationery, paint, office furnishings and print businesses which come together in the company J.F. AMONN Carta e Colori S.p.A. J.F. Amonn, which now only includes the agricultural products business, changes its name to Amonn Fitochimica Spa. 50% of the share capital is bought up by the Dutch company Philips, which then raises its stake to 80%. J.F. Amonn Fitochimica Spa continues in the business of the manufacture and sale of agricultural products.

The Amonn family found, with a majority shareholding, SATIB Coca Cola for the manufacture and sale of Coca Cola.

Sale of Amonn Fitochimica Spa

After a buy-back of the Philips shareholding, Amonn Fitochimica Spa is sold to the US group DuPont. Following this operation, Amonn Fitochimica becomes a finance company under the name Amonn Agrofinanz Spa, headed by Christoph Amonn.
